  1. Function: The conservator tank serves as a reservoir for the transformer oil, which is the insulating and cooling medium in transformers. It ensures that the oil level in the main transformer tank remains constant, regardless of changes in temperature that cause the oil to expand or contract. This prevents the ingress of air or moisture into the transformer, both of which can be detrimental to the transformer's health and performance.

  2. Design: Typically, the conservator tank is connected to the main transformer tank via a pipe or a series of pipes, with a valve or float mechanism to regulate the oil flow.
