Yd11 Transformer Connection

The Yd11 transformer connection refers to a specific configuration used in three-phase power transformers. This configuration is characterized by the primary winding being connected in star (Y) configuration and the secondary winding in triangle (delta, denoted as d) configuration, with a 30-degree phase shift between the primary and secondary voltages.

In more detail:

  1. Primary Winding (Y Connection): The three phases (usually labeled R, S, and T) of the primary winding are connected in a star or wye configuration. This means that one end of each phase winding is connected together at a common point, often referred to as the neutral point (N). The three other ends provide the line voltages to the supply.

  2. Secondary Winding (Delta Connection): The three phases of the secondary winding are connected in a delta configuration. Each end of a phase winding is connected directly to the starting end of the next phase winding, forming a closed loop. There is no neutral point available in a delta-connected winding.

  3. Phase Shift (11 Configuration): The "11" in Yd11 denotes a specific vector group which signifies a 30-degree phase shift between the primary and secondary voltage vectors. This phase shift is inherent due to the physical construction of the transformer and is crucial for maintaining the correct phase relationship between primary and secondary circuits in power systems.
